Meet Amanda
I always do my best work when I am traveling. Not to exotic locations or on beach vacations but when I am held up in an airport or hotel bar with ample time for my brain to just drain from the monotonous day to day tasks. I need this time for it to fill up with all the things that really inspire me. It’s usually the people and situations I run into on the road and in the air that get me really worked up and teach me the best lessons on who I want and don’t want to be in my career.
I am at a point in my career where I am incredibly happy. I enjoy what I do, I am constantly learning, and I end my days feeling accomplished. Coming out of college, everyone that I talked to always asked “where do you see yourself in ten years” and back then I would have given them a totally different answer then where I actually ended up today...10 years later.
The thing that I failed to realize when I was young is that everyone’s corner office (or measure of ultimate “I made it” success) does not have to look the same. It shouldn’t look the same. Only you can define what your version of success is.
My version of success is not the same as the person sitting next to me. It never will be… and that is okay. It’s better than okay actually - that is the beautiful part of success. For me, success is earning enough money to pay my bills, support my family, spoil my son occasionally (okay… a lot) and allow myself to practice my two favorite hobbies - photography and writing.
I don’t need to be in all the quarterly meetings with the Vice Presidents and Partners – it’s not what I want...and that is completely okay. My goal in life is not to get have a “C” in front of my title. It’s to create, to teach and if all goes well make a difference in some kind of big way.
